Shameful act of a professor
Professor Liang Maochun, a 70-year-old PhD supervisor in the Central Conservatory of Music, has confessed to having sex with one of his doctoral candidates and taking a bribe from her, reports Huashang News.
A professor not only forced a female student who wished to be his PhD candidate to have sex with him, but also took 100,000 yuan to enroll her in the desired program. Liang Maochun confessed to his crimes after failing to get her enrolled. The Central Conservatory of Music has now banned him from teaching or enrolling students.
This scandal has shocked the entire society. "Latent rules" seem to be lurking in every corner in China. But it's really surprising to see so many scandals breaking out in colleges and universities, which are considered relatively free of corruption and malpractices.
The abuse of power by university professors and officials not only corrupts the academic atmosphere, but also damages the reputation of the abodes of learning. How can a corrupt professor with loose morals cultivate good students?
Teachers, irrespective of their knowledge, reputation and power, should never forget their social responsibility as the role models for the youth.
Education and university authorities should conduct strict supervision and severely punish violators that vitiate the academic atmosphere to deter others from treading the wrong path.
