Asian Games Special: Local dishes get international safety approval for Asian Games

GUANGZHOU: Lessons learnt from the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games are set to be implemented in the city as it gears up for the 2010 Asian Games. In particular the city, capital of the southern province of Guangdong, is looking to ensure the well-being of competitors and spectators through the launch of a highly pro-active food quality inspectorate.
The move has been designed to help streamline the sharing of risk assessment information between the city's health, agriculture, medicine supervision and disease control departments, according to a spokesman from the Guangzhou bureau of quality and technology supervision.
Liang Jiachi, director of the bureau, said: "We are looking to adopt the food safety supervision model pioneered by last years' Olympic Games as a benchmark for the Asian Games food safety quality threshold."
