Protest at war shrine

Dozens of Taiwanese aboriginal protesters pushed past security guards at Tokyo's Yasukuni Shrine for the war dead yesterday, demanding that the shrine remove the names of ancestors killed while serving in Japan's Imperial Army. The protesters strode into the inner courtyard and made their way towards the shrine's main hall. The shrine honors Japan's war dead and leaders convicted as war criminals and seen by many in Asia as a symbol of Japan's past militarism.
