Zhang Haiyan has endured mixed fortunes during her long years as a fisherwoman, but nothing compares with the changes she has encountered since last year.

It was then that a huge expansion project began on the wharf near her home in Lianyungang, Jiangsu province, forcing her and her husband to walk an extra 3 km in order to launch their boat into the water.

Despite the inconvenience, however, the 57-year-old looks on the bright side.
