NBS defends data
The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has said that there are no flaws in China's statistical system and that it has taken steps to ensure the accuracy of the figures on average rural and urban incomes and wages. The NBS statement comes after some sections had expressed doubts on the credibility of the recently published NBS figures showing average urban wages rose 12.9 percent in the first half to 14,938 yuan, despite the financial crisis.
TD-SCDMA sets from Nokia
Nokia will launch a handset in China before the end of the year in partnership with China Mobile based on the country's homegrown TD-SCDMA network, a senior executive of the world's biggest cell phone maker said yesterday. Colin Giles, Nokia's senior vice-president for greater China, Japan and Korea, said the handset would be in the mid-to-high price range.
Ever-Glory Q2 sales fall
Ever-Glory International Group Inc, a leading apparel supply chain manager and retailer said net sales decreased by 12.2 percent in the second quarter to $21.1 million from $24.1 million in 2008. This decrease was attributed to lower sales in its wholesale business.
Everbright raises 11b yuan
Everbright Securities Co raised 11 billion yuan in an initial public offering. The company sold 179 million shares, or 34.5 percent of the 520 million shares available, to institutional investors at 21.08 yuan, according to a filing.
Pirelli China sales up
Italian tyre maker Pirelli said yesterday its sales in China rose 40 percent in the first half from a year earlier, but weak global demand has put a planned $100 million investment in the country on hold.
