With Lu Yuanxiong
After performing with the San Antonio Symphony for nearly 20 years, double bassist Lu Yuanxiong is now passing on what he has learned to others. The 45-year-old is instructing young musicians at Texas Christian University as the only Chinese teaching the double bass there.
Lu returned to his hometown Shanghai last month to perform with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra. He is also a guest professor at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, where he teaches master's classes in the summer months.
To promote musical exchanges between China and the United States, he works with his school to recruit outstanding Chinese students. Lu is also planning an annual concert at his university this fall, which will highlight American and Chinese musicians and include performers from Shanghai and Shenyang.
