Wie mindful of Open hazards

China Daily | Updated: 2009-07-31 08:04

LYTHAM ST ANNES, England: Michelle Wie is well aware of the hazards facing the field in this week's British Women's Open as she attempts to earn her first professional win and seal a place in the US Solheim Cup team.

The last time Wie competed in the Open at Lytham in 2006, the American fell foul of the rule book when she mistakenly touched a loose impediment in a bunker. She was penalised a couple of shots and ended up in 26th place.

"This time I'm going to try and stay out of all the bunkers," the 19-year-old told reporters with a broad smile. "They are definitely real hazards on this course. But I'm pleased to be back here and really excited about the week.
