Health director loses job

Geng Aiping, deputy director of the health bureau of Xinmi in Henan province, has been sacked for failing to perform her duty in the case of a migrant worker who underwent open-chest surgery to prove he had caught a major occupational disease.

Xinmi native Zhang Haichao, 28, had his chest opened in late June at a key hospital in the provincial capital of Zhengzhou to prove he had pneumoconiosis, a major occupational hazard. Previously, the government-designated Zhengzhou Occupational Disease Prevention and Treatment Center had diagnosed Zhang through chest X-ray analysis as having tuberculosis, which denied him free treatment and compensation.
