Mine park opens

The National Mine Park in northeast China's Fuxin city, converted from Asia's largest open-pit coal mine, opened yesterday. The 28-sq-km park contains a cultural square, museum, viewing platform and other attractions.

The museum features exhibits about the origin of the earth and life, mining, industrial heritage and tourism development. Construction of the park began in 2007. Admission is free.
