Unleashing a crackdown

Dog owners in Nanjing, Jiangsu province who walk their pets in restricted areas or without leashes may be fined up to 3,000 yuan ($439) during a police crackdown that began yesterday and that will last to Sept 19.

Licenses to keep dogs can also be revoked during the initiative and dogs may even be confiscated in extreme circumstances.
