Dance drama The Rain of Flowers along the Silk Road is part of the repertoire of the Gansu Dance Drama and Opera Ensemble. First staged in 1979, the play has traveled around 20 countries and regions. The storyline is set against the ancient Silk Road in the Tang Dynasty (AD 618-907), narrating the friendship between Chinese and foreigners. Choreographers drew inspiration from the scenes in the Dunhuang murals.
