Galicia Special: Galicia: looking to build Sino-Spanish business

By Song Ping | China Daily | Updated: 2009-07-24 08:04

Are you thinking about expanding into Europe? Do you think Latin America is likely to play an important role in the future development of your company? If so, then maybe it is time to acquaint yourself with Galicia.

Set on Spain's Atlantic coast, the most westerly tip of mainland Europe, Galicia's cosmopolitan residents speak Spanish, Portuguese and English. Galicia is an autonomous region of Spain and has been granted "Convergence Status" by the EU. This status entitles the region to offer businesses a high level of financial incentive to invest in the area. This can include a grant of up to 30 percent of proposed total capital investment, as well as non-refundable capital grants designed to cover up to 50 percent of the cost of purchasing certain plots of industrial land.

The appeal of Galicia is further enhanced by its excellent infrastructure. This has recently been enhanced by the addition of a series of new motorways and dual carriageways, all adding to the existing strengths of its three airports, five large international seaports, ample industrial land, modern electricity and gas networks, research and technology centers, and its outstanding telecommunications system.
