Classic cuisine and opera
Imperial Granary (皇家粮仓) is an artist's conception of a restaurant based on a real cultural relic built in 1409 during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). The brick walls, wooden pillars and crossbeams are all protected cultural heritage. The owner managed to abide by all the rules of cultural protection, and yet infuse modern Chinese elements into the dcor.
A notable attraction here is Peony Pavilion, a Chinese Kunqu Opera performance in a small theater capable of seating 60 people in the eastern part of the restaurant. Kunqu Opera is older than Peking Opera, and is considered a most beautiful ancient Chinese art form. Peony Pavilion is a classic piece of the Kunqu repertoire, and revolves around an ancient Chinese love story.
The restaurant's heavy menu is beautifully illustrated with paintings and poems from an ancient book about Chinese agricultural rituals and customs. The foods are a tasty mix of popular Chinese cuisines.
