Kiddie kungfu

China Daily | Updated: 2009-07-18 08:08

In the low-revenue children's film market, the latest Looking for Jackie is an exception. Within one week of its opening, the film has grossed 12 million yuan ($1.7 million).

Zhang Yishan, a 15-year-old Beijinger studying at a kungfu school in Indonesia, returns home to visit his grandparents - a ruse to find his idol, Jackie Chan, and enroll as his disciple. After a wasted trip to a remote Taoist monastery, he's kidnapped and brought back in Beijing by two crooks (played by Yan Bingyan and Wu Jun), who oversee a group of young pickpockets.

Rescued by cops (played by Jiang Hongbao), Zhang misses Chan again at a charity event and then tries to track him down at a couple of film studios. When all seems lost, his grandma (played by Zhu Xijuan) helps.
