29 police die in ambush

Authorities in a central Indian state deployed hundreds of paramilitary troops yesterday and searched for 13 missing policemen after left-wing insurgents killed 29 officers in a jungle ambush over the weekend.

The militants killed the policemen, including a district police chief, on Sunday while they patrolled Chhattisgarh state's heavily forested Rajnandgaon district.
