MONTREAL: Amanda Reason broke the world record in the women's 50m breaststroke on Wednesday at the Canadian swimming world championship trials.

The 15-year-old Reason finished in 30.23 seconds to surpass Aussie Jade Edmistone's 2006 mark of 30.31 seconds.

Reason's world record is the first for Canada in a long course pool in 21 years. Allison Higson eclipsed the 200 breaststroke record in 1988.
