Beijing audiences cannot forget the concerts by the Cincinnati Pops under the baton of maestro Erich Kunzel at last year's Olympics. Those who attended these concerts at the National Center for the Performing Arts (NCPA) were saddened by news this May that the 74-year-old conductor had been diagnosed with pancreatic, liver and colon cancer.
They would never have thought Kunzel would return to Beijing but, yes, he is back to conduct the China Central Opera House Orchestra to give two concerts today and tomorrow at the NCPA.
At a press conference on Tuesday afternoon, Kunzel looked good and said he was looking forward to working with the Chinese orchestra.
