Driver could be executed

A drunk driver who allegedly killed five people, including a heavily pregnant woman, on June 30 in Nanjing of Jiangsu province could face the death penalty if prosecutors agree to formally arrest him for "endangering public security".

Police on Wednesday applied to the local procuratorate for the arrest of Zhang Mingbao, a 44-year-old construction project manager, who hit nine people and six cars while seriously drunk. Police want him to be charged with "endangering public security". The local procuratorate has seven days in which to decide whether the charge is appropriate.
