Japan supports searching ships

China Daily | Updated: 2009-07-08 07:44

TOKYO: Japan's cabinet sent to parliament yesterday a bill that would authorize its coastguard to inspect DPRK ships for nuclear- and missile-related materials.

The bill would allow the coastguard to inspect ships both on the high seas and in Japanese waters.

However, inspectors would first be required to get approval from the captain of any ship targeted and from its country of origin.
