Gone fishing, says Governor Palin
As surprised fans and critics of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin traded guesses behind her decision to resign more than a year before her term ends, the former vice presidential candidate offered few hints at her political future, except to say she'd gone fishing.
Palin has stayed out of the public eye since she made the announcement on Friday, but said in a Twitter update on Sunday she was looking forward to joining her family as they commercially fish in Bristol Bay.
Croatia appoints first woman PM
Croatia's parliament yesterday approved a Cabinet headed by a journalist-turned-politician Jadranka Kosor, the country's first woman prime minister.
Kosor succeeded Ivo Sanader, who shocked the nation by resigning last week.
The 56-year-old took up the mantle amid deep economic woes that have the country facing its worst crisis since its war of independence from the former Yugoslavia in the early 1990s.
"I will lead both the government and the (HDZ) party with a strong female hand," Kosor said at a weekend convention of her Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ).
