Jets pound Afghan border

Pakistani warplanes bombed Taliban positions in the northwest yesterday, killing at least five insurgents, residents said, as militants distributed leaflets warning area tribesmen not to rise up against them.

The air strike happened about 25 km west of Miranshah in North Waziristan, a Taliban bastion on the Afghan border.
