Updated: 2009-07-06 07:45 Thief keeps cash and laptop, returns diploma A railway pickpocket who snatched a bag with a notebook computer returned a diploma to the victim out of good conscience. The recent graduate was saying goodbye to his classmates on Thursday at a railway station in Dalian, Liaoning province, when the thief took the cash and computer. He returned the diploma and other personal papers to a waiting room from which he got them. After police arrested him, he argued that he was a conscionable person who deserved leniency. (Peninsula Morning Post) Crook fails to break into ATM but gets prison term A man who used a nail clipper to open an ATM was arrested before he took any cash. He was sent to prison for five years. There was 350,000 yuan ($51,219) inside the machine but he didn't get to steal a fen. Despite pleas from his lawyers, judges said he deserved the sentence, plus a 500-yuan fine.
