Move over Jurassic Park dino, a real giant is here
SYDNEY: And you thought velociraptors, made famous by Jurassic Park movies, were the last word in terrifying dinosaurs.
Well, think again, for Australian palaeontologists say they have discovered three new dinosaur species after examining fossils dug up in Queensland. And one of them, Australovenator wintonensis, was even bigger and more terrifying than the meat-eating velociraptor.
The two herbivore and one carnivore dinosaurs, the first to be unearthed since 1981, date back 98 million years to the mid-Cretaceous period, and suggest Australia may have a more complex prehistoric past.
