PARIS: Last year's surprise Tour de France winner Carlos Sastre exudes confidence going into the stage race even though he quit a top team to ride for debutants Cervelo.
The 34-year-old Sastre built his Tour triumph in the ascent of the Alpe d'Huez, going solo as CSC team mate Frank Schleck was wearing the yellow jersey.
"Last year, Frank Schleck was the team leader but I am the one who won," the Spaniard told Reuters in an interview. "I attacked in the Alpe d'Huez because it was the team's strategy to win the Tour. My fans were delighted, those of the Schleck brothers (Andy and Frank) were less ecstatic."
