China has seen a steady fall in its maternal mortality rate thanks to efforts to improve healthcare for new mothers.
According to the Ministry of Health, the rate was 61.9 per 100,000 in 1995, 48.3 in 2004 and 34.2 last year.
But it is not the only trend that is changing among pregnant women, with new fads replacing old beliefs.
