Tai chi contest in Henan

The 5th International Tai Chi Contest will kick off on August 20 in Jiaozuo, Henan province and last for five days.

About 2,000 tai chi practitioners from more than 30 countries and regions will converge on the city known as the cradle of Chen-style tai chi, one of the five major styles of the ancient martial art. Chen Wangting (1600-1680), a villager in Wenxian, a small town in Jiaozuo, is credited with creating the style. Wenxian has about 100,000 tai chi practitioners, more than 50 tai chi schools and 200 non-governmental tai chi societies. According to the Jiaozuo government, 150 million people around the world now practice this time-honored kungfu.
