There should not be any exception to rule
He Chuanyang got the highest mark in Chongqing in the national college entrance exam. Later, he was found to have faked his ethnicity to get extra marks. He now faces strict punishment and could even be disqualified from seeking admission to college. To preserve the fairness of the college entrance exam, he should be punished, argues an article in the Yanzhao Metropolis Daily. Excerpt:
The national college entrance exam rules say examinees who fake their ethnic identity to get bonus marks should be disqualified from entering college. It is clear that He Chuanyang has violated the rules and should be punished.
Some may argue that He is only a youngster and such a punishment is too harsh for him. But sympathy cannot replace justice. If we do not punish cheaters, the rights of honest examinees would be undermined and credibility of the entrance exam hurt. Even the most meritorious students and the highest officials' children should not be exceptions.
Investigation into this case should be thorough. Not only should He be disqualified from seeking higher education, but also his parents and others who helped him in the fraud face punishment. We need to find out who the real mastermind was. Only if the hidden culprits of the fraud are exposed and punished will the credibility and fairness of the exam system be restored. The public is waiting to see a complete and fair resolution of the case.
