霸王条款 (bawang tiaokuan)

Despotic clauses

This expression refers to the clauses in contracts or some rules that are favorable to those who have framed them. For example, a restaurant stipulates that customers are not allowed to take their own soft or hard drinks, and if they do, they will be charged corkage. It has become a popular phrase to use when referring to stipulations that only benefit the party, which has laid them down with the sole authority to interpret them.
