At 55, Lin Sijia is a widower, his savings are gone and his son rarely visits him. For him, the AIDS virus is not just destroying his body, but his entire life.

Lin (not his real name) and his wife were diagnosed HIV-positive 12 years ago. She died just months later, while he has spent the last decade in and out of hospital.

He now lives in the Shanghai Public Health Clinical Center, where there are around 40 beds for AIDS patients.
