Updated: 2009-06-30 07:54 Editor's note: Here are some comments on Michael Jackson from China Daily website, www.chinadaily.com.cn Farewell, King of Pop When having an English name became a fashion, many - even some girls - chose Michael. One reason was because of Michael Jordan and the other reason was Jackson. If Teresa Deng is the one who introduced modern pop music into the mainland, then Jackson is the first one to bring Western pop music to China and influenced a generation of musicians, singers and young people. May he rest in peace. Summers Not self-proclaimed The big problem I have is this: America can call Elvis the King of Rock and Roll without any hesitation. But when it comes to Michael Jackson the American media calls him "The Self-proclaimed King of Pop". Come on, MJ has been in the entertainment business far longer than Elvis was, doing things Elvis didn't, and even donating, giving much more then Elvis did. Don't get me wrong. Elvis was great, and did some great things in his career. But labeling MJ as the "Self-proclaimed King of Pop" is crazy. He was THE KING OF POP. Jay Bowman White supremacy It was a pity to see Michael Jackson do all those things to turn his complexion "white" to enhance his position in society. It, of course, had everything to do with the prevalence of color prejudice in the US and the naivety of one who thought he could achieve social equality by ridding himself of his color. It was pathetic, both for him and the society at large in the US. I recall a very good friend in school who used to scrub himself to the extent of almost bleeding, in the hope that some of the pigment might wash off. Pity all such people, including girls using the so-called whitener. It is the poison of white supremacy at work. Warped Physical stamina Michael Jackson was a fabulous entertainer. But, he had many, many problems, which I don't think we should forget. He simply was a normal human being blessed with musical and performing talent housed in a body that was frail mentally and physically. Enough said. Nissan3 Color of identity I hope no one will "bleach" their body to be what they are not to be. He had the skin disease so it's probably justifiable with all things money can buy, but to reconstruct his face so he would look like a white guy is stupid! He is a great musician.
