Social work with a comic edge

Those tired of the usual bar scene after work can now head to the Bund for some light relief courtesy of a new live show hosted by French restaurant and bar Number 5 Bistro.

Based on American satire, "No. 5 Whole Live Comedy Show" is presented in Chinese by a group of eight local performers who poke fun at random topics with a focus on current events. A late night news segment is the highlight of the 75-minute show.

"We have combined elements of live US talk shows to produce the first comedy show of its kind performed at a bar in Shanghai," said Director Ding Lining, who designed the show exclusively for the bistro. Ding said he drew inspiration for the show from American TV talk shows such as Saturday Night Live.
