Brown secures deal to avoid prison for assault

R&B singer Chris Brown pleaded guilty yesterday to assaulting his former girlfriend, pop star Rihanna after a plea deal with prosecutors.

The singer of the hits Run It and Kiss Kiss, will be formally sentenced on Aug 5. He had faced four years in prison if convicted in a trial on charges of assault and making a criminal threat but now faces five years' probation and a requirement to attend courses on domestic violence.
