Bridget Jones, redux

Kill Bride is China's answer to the successful Renee Zellweger comedy, Bridget Jones Diary series.

In this mainland film, Du Leisi plays a 29-year-old plain saleswoman who struggles with her weight, her boss, and her neglect by men, and routinely finds ways to embarrass herself. After deciding to go on a blind date in a club, she develops a crush on a guy who turns out to be a cheat hired by the club to make more money.

Mainland actress Guo Keyu plays the unlucky woman Du, defined by her huge black-rimmed glasses and dreams of finding Mr Right before hitting 30. Guo rose to fame in the 1995 film Red Cherry, based on the true story of Chuchu, a 13-year-old girl trying to survive during World War II.
