Located in the northeast of Guangdong province, Jiaoling borders the eastern China provinces of Fujian and Jiangxi. Administered by the city of Meizhou, the county covers an area of 960 sq km and has a population of some 228,000.

The county, crisscrossed by the Tianjin-Shanwei Expressway as well as the 205 national road, is only 30 minutes' drive from the city of Meizhou and about four hours from the cities of Guangzhou and Shenzhen in the Pearl River Delta.

Jiaoling enjoys a subtropical maritime monsoon climate, with abundant rainfall and a distinct four-season pattern. Rich in ecological, tourism and natural resources, the county also has abundant land for forestry use, covering an area of 76,800 hectares, 74,400 hectares of which are forest.
