New laws in pipeline to help open-up policy
About 100 economic laws and regulations are expected to be formulated in the next two years, said Gu Ming, deputy secretary-general of the State Council.
Gu, who is also president of the council's Study Center of Economic Laws, said the center had planned to formulate 145 economic laws and regulations from 1982 to 1986 with the approval from the National People's Congress and the State Council.
So far, 42 economic laws and regulations have been promulgated, eight are being examined and more than 20 are in the making.
Tianjin medical exhibition 'a success'
The Tianjin International Medical Exhibition, organized by the New York-based China Trade Promotion, was a success, said Louis Sharpe, president of the US company.
Sharpe told a news conference that customers bought 90 percent of the displayed equipment, worth about $3 million. Besides, exhibitors and Chinese people signed five medical joint ventures.
The exhibition was held from May 30 to June 5, in which about 60 companies from 12 countries took part. More than 30,000 people from 20 provinces visited the show.
Wildlife organization formed
A wildlife conservation organization was formed in Shenyang, capital of Liaoning province, recently.
It will work to protect and rationally use wildlife resources, guide publicity campaigns, conduct scientific research and academic exchanges, and help preserve endangered species.
It will domesticate wild animals that have high economic value and breed rare species, too.
