China Daily | Updated: 2009-06-18 07:53

TEHERAN: Defeated candidate Mirhossein Mousavi called for peaceful protests or gatherings in mosques today to mourn those killed after a disputed election set off Iran's worst unrest since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's victory against Mousavi sparked demonstrations and bloody street battles in Teheran which killed at least seven people on Monday while other protests flared up in cities across Iran.

"A number of our countrymen were wounded or martyred," Mousavi said, calling the day of mourning for today.
