China, Australia sign iron and steel MOU
China and Australia have taken a significant step toward establishing long-term cooperation between their iron and steel industries.
A memorandum of understanding was signed in Beijing yesterday by the visiting Australian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade Lionel Bowen and Chinese Minister of Foreign Economic Relations and Trade and State Councilor Chen Muhua.
This is only the beginning of a long-term relationship between Australia and China, Bowen said at a press conference.
China bank to cash traveler's cheques
Starting next month, Bank of China will cash traveler's checks issued by Hong Kong banks, including Nanyang Commercial Bank and Hang Seng Bank, under terms of an agreement signed in Beijing yesterday.
The checks, which will be available next month, are valued in Hong Kong dollars and accepted by Visa International, of which Hang Seng and Nanyang banks are members.
Visa Hong Kong dollar traveler's checks will be accepted by all Bank of China branches in major Chinese cities, hotels and friendship stores at slightly higher rates.
Yanjing caf open to public
A caf, Western dining room, one of two Chinese dining rooms and the shopping areas of Yanjing Hotel are now open to the public. Only guests could visit the facilities in the hotel in Fuxingmenwai Avenue until last Sunday.
"This is an effort to be more efficient by making full use of our facilities," Bian Juixing, deputy manager in chief of Beijing's Hotel Service Company, said.
"Our other hotels will follow the example if the Yanjing practice proves successful," Bian said.
