Three renowned professors of law will begin two-year terms in the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) this week, becoming the second group of academicians selected to work with the country's highest agency for prosecution.

The three scholars, all leading figures in their respective specializations, were appointed last Friday, SPP spokesman Tong Jianming said yesterday.

Li Xihui, 52, a professor of criminal law at Beijing Normal University, was named director of SPP's detection and inspection department. Zhang Mingkai, 49, a professor in criminal law at Tsinghua University, will be the deputy director of SPP's public prosecution department.
