China Daily | Updated: 2009-06-10 07:56

The Pan-Pearl River Delta (PPRD) regional cooperation group was formed at the behest of the Guangdong province. It is now supported by the provinces of Fujian, Jiangxi, Hunan, Guangxi, Hainan, Sichuan, Guizhou and Yunnan, as well as the two special administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macao (also referred as "9+2"). It is now widely established as one of the most influential economic forums in the region.

With support from all of the relevant national and regional government departments, the '9+2' management team work together to boost cooperation and the profile of the PPRD region as a whole. It has maintained steady progress during its first four years in operation.

The Pan Pearl River Delta area covers a region amounting to one fifth of China's total territory, as well as one third of its population. Over one third of China's economic output (excluding Hong Kong and Macao), is sourced from within its boundaries
