Fidelio Trio

A chamber music group from Ireland will stage a concert in Shanghai tomorrow evening. The Fidelio Trio, made up of violinist Darragh Morgan, cellist Robin Michael and pianist Mary Dullea, are known for their diverse repertoire. They have performed around the world in Europe, Asia and South Africa.

Yannick Rieu

Canadian musician Yannick Rieu is holding a recital next week. Composer, tenor and soprano saxophonist Yannick Rieu toured China in 2007 and has been lauded as "the greatest poet in Canadian jazz" by Paris-based Jazzman magazine.

Cold Moon

A total of 70 paintings created by Tao Weihong, a successor of the Cold Moon School of Chinese Calligraphy and Painting, will be displayed this month in Shanghai. The show provides a rare opportunity to appreciate classic works of the 70-year-old's career. Tao's work reflects the ideas that lie at the heart of the Cold Moon Painting School. He has won acclaim for his outstanding renditions of clouds, water, trees and mountains.

Travel photos

Christopher Taylor documents his travels over the western plateau along the Huang He (Yellow River) with photos taken from the year 2000. He captures the concept "zhong" (meaning middle) by photographing distinct opposites in the landscapes such as the sky and earth. He claims this series as "a wider-ranging exploration made possible by the depth and breadth of China".

Ihei Kimura

Coming up

Ihei Kimura (1901-1974) was a Japanese photographer, whose realistic photos had a profound social impact on Japan in the 1950s. Though few of his photos have survived, the Zeit-Foto Gallery has managed to hold onto a small collection of 30 photos. With five pieces that were previously donated to the Shanghai Art Museum, a joint retrospective exhibition will be presented.

My carnival
