Sarah plays tonight
In October 2005, violinist Sarah Chang joined the China Philharmonic Orchestra to give a thrilling concert that opened the Beijing Music Festival. This evening, Chang will return to collaborate with the China Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of the young and talented French conductor Stephane Deneve, at Beijing Concert Hall
Chang will play Brahms' Violin Concerto in D Major in the first half of the concert. It is the composer's only violin concerto as well as one of his best works. Calm and serene, it not only features Brahms' characteristics but is also a perfect choice to demonstrate that Chang, the child prodigy, has matured into a young artist whose musical insight, technical virtuosity and emotional range continue to astonish.
Born in Philadelphia to Korean parents in 1980, Chang started to learn violin at the age of four and later enrolled at the Juilliard School of Music where she studied with the late Dorothy Delay. When she was eight, she played with the New York Philharmonic under the baton of Zubin Mehta and with the Philadelphia Orchestra under Riccardo Muti.
