Last chance to catch docu fest films
Documentary filmmakers in China often see the paucity of screening venues as their biggest challenge. Many of their films on subjects of strong personal interest and social transformation, rarely see the light of day. But this situation is gradually changing. With a big increase in independent filmmaking in recent years, including more documentaries, CNEX is one Beijing-based organization that supports documentary filmmaking in a big way.
Run by a group of Chinese from Chinese mainland, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, it gives grants every year to ten Chinese filmmakers from around the world to make documentaries.
The theme of this year's festival, that ends tomorrow, is Dreams and Hopes. The 11-day event brings 37 films from across the globe. This weekend's offerings include the following:
