The China Central Ballet will present the classic The Red Detachment of Women this weekend. A popular ballet since its debut in 1964, its story is set in the 1930s in Hainan province.
It is about a young woman, who rejects the oppression of the local landlord, joins the all-women Red Army and becomes an outstanding leader.
