Xiangtan would be a little-known city in Hunan province, but for one thing - the nearby township of Shaoshan was the birthplace of Mao Zedong. Consquently, Shaoshan is one of the most popular tourist destinations in China. Every year it attracts millions of visitors, all of them keen to see for themselves the hometown of one of the most significant figures in China's long history.
