Recital by keyboard prodigy

Chinese keyboard prodigy, 22-year-old Wang Yujia, will give a recital at the National Center for the Performing Arts on Thursday. She will play a series of sonatas by Domenico Scarlatti, Alexander Scriabin, Brahms and Stravinsky.

Beijing-born Wang began to play the piano at the age of 6, and went on to further her learning at the Mount Royal College Conservatory in Canada when she was 14. The following year, she began to learn under Gary Graffman, who was also well-known pianist Lang Lang's teacher at the Curtis Institute of Music, and graduated in May 2008.

In January 2009, Wang signed an exclusive recording contract for five discs with Deutsche Grammophon, and became the third Chinese pianist to sign on with the prestigious classical label, after Li Yundi and Lang Lang.
