China's rise in the world of fashion mirrors its rise as an influential member of the global community. But what exactly goes on behind the glitz and glamour of China's catwalks?
Fashion-show director Zhang Jian's latest book, Notes From The Runway, published by China Textile and Apparel Press, purports to provide some answers. In China's answer to The Devil Wears Prada, Zhang draws from his personal experiences to dish the dirt on runway styles, media reports, teamwork, model competitions, client tastes and designers' behaviors.
Regarded as "the father of Chinese models and runways", Zhang has brought in many big names to China, such as Pierre Cardin and Armani, and also taken Chinese names, such as Luo Zheng, to New York Fashion Week.
