Different reasons, one summit

For many mountain-climbing enthusiasts, scaling Taishan is a must.

Li Chuanye, a 74-year-old man from Sichuan province, steels himself on the upper Eighteen Bends close to the summit.

"This is the first time I've climbed Taishan," he says. "I was told that climbing the mountain can make people live long. I hope so."
