Oil production to grow
China's annual oil and natural gas production may reach 400 million tons by the end of this century, State Councilor Kang Shi'en told a Beijing conference this week.
The forecast is based on a verified onshore oil reserve area of some 10,000 sq km, and an estimated 140,000 new wells to be drilled in the next 17 years - seven times the current number of onshore wells.
Crude oil production is expected to reach 110 million tons this year, Minister of Petroleum Industry Tang Ke said.
