Money can't buy life

China Daily | Updated: 2009-05-23 08:40

The court should not let off Hu Bin, the driver involved in the recent sports car accident in Hangzhou, which killed a 25-year-old man, easily just because his family has agreed to compensate the victim's kin handsomely. It is a matter of social justice, says the Oriental Morning Post. Excerpt:

The Xinmin Weekly reported recently that the families of both parties involved in the car accident in Hangzhou have signed a compensation agreement, wherein the family of the accused will pay the victim's kin a total of 1.13 million yuan.

The public is worried that the sum will buy Hu Bin, the speeding driver, his freedom from justice.
