Minster: Fiscal goals to be met before schedule
Finance Minister Wang Bingqian has said he is confident that the fiscal targets of the 6th Five-Year Plan (1981-1985) would be met a year before schedule.
The rate of increase of domestic revenue in the first four months of 1984 was much higher than the planned annual rate of 6.3 percent, so the plan is most likely to be over-achieved, too, Wang said.
The government's top priority is to expand the sources of revenue and accumulate more funds for the country's modernization program, he said.
Boom time for advertising industry
The rapid growth of commodity production has led to an advertisement boom in the country. Last year the total business turnover of the 2,340 advertising units reached 234 million yuan, 25 percent more than in 1982.
Liu Baofu, of the State Administration Bureau for Industry and Commerce, said China had 183 advertising companies, compared with fewer than 10 five years ago.
Many producers are looking ahead and have realized that it is strategically important to promote their brands through advertising as some world famous companies do, Liu said.
